I am supposed to be past where I am presently with this blog. The Lord has spoken to me about it by Himself, He also sent men to remind me that I have to write, and keep the blog running (A special shout out to “Bro Nelson Vincent” of ‘the New Man Movement’ [it’s a blog as well. You can search it out on Google]- he set up this blog for me, and ever since then, he has been particular about my progress. He’s always asking when I’d start rewriting, and posting on my blog. He has been a huge blessing since I started blogging late last year; though I’ve not been exactly consistent, seeing I have just about 11-12 articles here. He hasn’t given up on me, and has been encouraging me, and sending prayers. It’s his eagerness to help despite my slackness for me. THANK YOU SIR!)
I’m glad I’m back, and like I always say, “if it wasn’t the Lord who gave me this blog as an assignment, I’d have closed it down.” I’m thankful and grateful He sent help my way, and with open hands, I received the help! By God’s grace, this time, I’m back, and I’m back for good! (Amen).
I made a promise to myself that if I was sharing a personal story of mine, I was going to be very plain, and frank. I don’t have a plan to include whatever is not true, though I might not give out all details, but I always make sure I include the right and important information that I know would be beneficial to my readers. This paragraph is to prepare your mind for what you’re going to be reading in the next few minutes. It’s all truth, and before God and man, in the words of Paul, “I lie not.”
The 12th of April was the last time I posted something here, the Hadassah story; A modern representation of the story of Esther in the Bible. The story took a lot of struggle to complete and in records, it’s the second book I’ll ever finish. I have more than (because I cannot tell the exact number) 15 books to my name, to say the least. Most of it written while I was still in secondary school. If you follow my story, you’d know I’ve been writing since primary school. I discovered my talent then, or it’s safe to say, ‘my teachers discovered my talent then. They didn’t believe I didn’t write all those essays they do tell us to write without help from an adult. I finally discovered I have the writing anointing when I was in secondary school. I made money from one of my stories that time. It was an erotic story though, and as the devil would have it, the book trended in my class then, amongst my friends (I wasn’t exactly a saint before I gave my life to Christ, and I discovered after I was born again that being born into a Christian home doesn’t mean you’re automatically God’s child. You have to personally, know God for yourself, and give your life to Him, and hand over the wheel of your life to Him, and do it intentionally). I thank God I found Christ when I did. I kinda have a pictorial representation of the kind of writer I’d have become now. I kid you not; I’d have gone far for the devil. I’m always grateful, and send the glory to God when people acknowledge how good my writings are, and sometimes, it makes me stop to think how that I would have been praised in the same way, as a writer, whose inspiration is from the devil. I would have been a disaster! Let me swerve a little from my story. The Holy Spirit just dropped it in my heart now as I write.
I’m in this group for writers where we can get writing gigs and also connect with each other. Someone asked one day if it is a sin or if it was wrong for a writer to write erotic stories, (the person asked because I think, he/she or someone else had posted a writing gig about writing an erotic story, but little or no one showed interested in the job). When I read it, I smiled. The answer is no; it’s not a sin. (Wait. Drop that eyebrow you just raised, and let me explain why it’s not a sin). Before then, let me quickly tell you some of the comments on the group. Majorly, people said it’s not a sin, provided you don’t have a wrong motive as to why you’re writing.
See ehn, as a writer, I can tell you for free that our imaginations run wild. That’s why you read some stories and wonder how someone sat down to think about something like that. It’s the same for script writers as well. You watch some movies, and you’re shocked it’s not a real life story because of how real it was depicted. A writer doesn’t think like the average human. Our thought process is totally and completely different from an average human. If a writer sits with you, and start talking about why a chicken has two legs, and how it ended up with two wings, you’d think they’re mad. And if the person is vast in the art of storytelling, you’d fall for the story before you know you did. So I understand the point of view of some who said it isn’t a sin. But it is very much a sin, as it is not a sin. (Don’t loose me, follow me. You’ll understand soon, don’t worry. You can also take a step back to read the last sentence). A writers’ mind and world is full and made up of stories. Anything he sees, he wants to tell a story out of it. The way a writer would describe something is totally different from the way an average human would explain the same thing. A writer might have never had sex, or kissed someone, or even watch a movie on that topic, and give a vivid explanation of what sex is on pen and paper. It might not be exactly how it usually is, but if that writer knows his way around words, you’d believe what he writes.
I wrote erotic stories, but I had no experience of what I was writing (I’m telling this in all truthfulness [when I said I wasn’t a saint, it doesn’t mean the sins I committed were sexual sins]. Possibly, I was using the knowledge I had seen in movies, but my creative imagination did more work). I just put down my imagination into words. Therefore, a writer can write an erotic scene, and feel nothing while writing (this was the emphasis of most of the comments on the group [which is true]). I’ve been there so I know what I’m telling you. A poet who has been served breakfast can write a love poem and you the reader will be dumbstruck, and if you’re not previously in love, after reading, you’ll want to find love, or let love find you. I think that’s why there’s a saying that ‘don’t fall for a poets’ sweet words’. They can write about what they do not physically feel (I’m paraphrasing). They can also write a poem on heartbreak when they’re deeply drowned in love. It’s just how our mind works (I’m saying ‘our’ because I’m guilty of this as well).
Now, as a believer whom Christ died for, and has the life of Christ inside him/her, and is the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, and has the mind of Christ, I’m telling this with my full chest that “IT IS A SIN TO WRITE EROTIC STORIES!”
Let me turn to those believers who are not writers. “Are you comfortable reading it?” You’re one step away from falling into the hands of the devil. You think you’re iron man? One day, the iron will either rust or melt, and you’d have fallen deeper into sin faster than you imagined.
Quote me anywhere! I’ll defend my statement. However, don’t forget to add the ‘believer’ part; so those I’m referring to will know themselves.
1 Corinthians 8:13 says,
“So if what I eat causes another believer to sin, I will never eat meat again as long as I live- for I don’t want another believer to stumble.”
Yes, Paul was speaking literally here. However, we cannot deny that there was more to this statement he made than what it literally means. I’ll use a scenario to explain this scripture.
Anderson just jumped out of the grip of masturbation through therapy and prayers. Jessica, who just gave her life to Christ is trying to stay away from fornication. John has made up his mind not to watch a circular movie or read just any book anymore, because the way the world has painted immorality as a normal thing, his mind is being corrupted daily. Therefore, he takes a firm and strong decision to stay away from these things, and instead bury himself in a ‘Godly book’, and spend hours seeing Godly movies. All of these people are trying to run away from the world, and find solace in Christ. They each pick up a supposedly ‘Godly novel,’ and guess what they find- just what they’ve been running from! Erotic scenes! I’m not talking pecking or kissing on the lips here and there, but actual love making scene, fondling, etc. (if by chance images of these things just popped up in your head, wipe them now before you continue).
A writer might feel it’s up to his readers to put to test what they’re reading or not (This is another comment someone made. It was more like the person said, ‘I am responsible for what I write, you’re responsible for practicing what I write or not’). Like I had earlier stated, it is very possible to write something you’re not feeling, but in the case of erotic stories, sooner or later, you’ll find yourself doing what you’re writing. It’s only a matter of time (I’m thankful God caught up with me before I got there) But not everyone has a strong mind. I mean, imagine someone trying to run from masturbation running into it inside of a book.
(I didn’t intend to go in-depth into this topic, However, the Holy Spirit wouldn’t permit me to stop where I wanted to, so I’ll just go on writing, till He’s done dishing it out).
There are some things we shouldn't be found doing as a believer. I mean, we have enough immorality in this world…,
To be continued…
